New Heterogeneous Catalysts for Clean Energy Production and Environmental Protection
Catalysis by Supported Metals

The main research activity of the thematic group is traditionally related to the synthesis, characterization and application of supported metal catalysts. Among the objects are mono- and bimetallic supported catalysts where the basic component is noble (Pt, Pd, Ru) or other metal (Fe, Co, Ni, Ag, Cu, etc.). One of the main directions in the lab over the past 10 years, this is the development of catalysts based on transition metals and precious metals promoted with transition metals for total oxidation of VOCs, methane and CO. Principal methods used in most of the studies are IR spectroscopy in its classical transmission or promising diffuse reflection mode, chemisorption of hydrogen, oxygen, CO and CO2, catalytic activity measurements in CO hydrogenation (oxidation) and total hydrocarbons (volatile organic compounds) oxidation reactions. In certain cases IR spectroscopy is used in combination with measurements of chemisorption of various gases on the catalysts. Experiments with “in situ” IRS measurements under static or dynamic conditions of certain catalytic reactions are carried out, too. Other methods are also used to study heterogeneous catalysts, e.g. temperature-programmed reduction/oxidation/desorption, X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, adsorption, DTG/DTA, etc.
