The scientific research interest of the group “Structure of catalysis and sorbents” is to clarify the effect of chemical and phase composition and structure on different features (catalytic properties, adsorption capacity, magnetic properties, etc) of solid state materials. In this relation we study the electronic, crystal, magnetic and porosity structure of the materials. Our capabilities to characterize the materials are related to the possibilities offered by: Mössbauer spectroscopy, i.e. characterization on a “nuclear level” - spin and valence state, electron density and structure, type of chemical bond, magnetic properties, as well as phase composition and stoichiometry; X-ray diffraction analysis, i.e. characterization of solid state compounds on a “crystallite level” –crystalline structure, average crystallite size, defects and phase composition; Porosimetery and sedimentographic analysis i.e. characterization on a ”macro level” - morphology, textural characteristics and particle size evaluation, pore distribution.
The work of the scientific group is also related to the preparation of nano-dimensional multifunctional composite materials based on transition metal oxides: preparation of materials by mechano-chemical synthesis and activation, sol-gel synthesis including Pechini method and thermal synthesis; preparation of supported nano-materials by impregnation of polydispersed carriers.
The scientific results of the group have been published in more than 150 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and referred conference proceedings with a significant impact among the scientific community (more that 800 citations) and have been presented at more than 80 national and international scientific forums.
