Surface analysis
The activity of the Surface Analysis Group is connected with the utilization of electron spectroscopic methods for characterizing catalysts prepared in the laboratories of the Institute of Catalysis – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Part of the work also includes service analyses for external organizations. In numerous cases, model structures prepared under ultra-high vacuum conditions are investigated, representing interest for catalysis. The equipment consists of the ESCALB-MkII electron spectrometer from the English company Vacuum Generators (now part of Thermo Fischer Scientific) – manufactured in 1986. The main analysis methodologies include X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), also known as ESCA (Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis), and Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES).
